Chien-Chi Chang’s ‘The Chain’ series showing at SCAF, Sydney
Magnum photographer Chien-Chi Chang’s ‘The Chain’ series is showing at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation (SCAF) Sydney, Australia until the 2nd August.
The 45 photographic portraits of chained inmates in a mental asylum in Taiwan are being shown alongside a new work commissioned by SCAF entitled Side Chain (1993-2014). Both works explore Chang’s connections with the Lung FaTang Temple and its patients and ’symbolise the human condition at its most elemental’. These works are accompanied by China Town (1992-2011) an additional work that alerts our attention to the plight of illegal Chinese immigrants in New York.
